From Foster Youth to Future Social Worker.

Anayyah, a former foster youth and devoted parent in our Bridges to the Future program, is a true inspiration—embodying resilience, determination, and strength. She recently earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Hunter College and has been accepted into the Advanced Standing MSW Program. Her journey is a powerful reminder of what it means to rise, overcome, and thrive.

 
 

found her forever home.

Meet Jennifer, who found her forever home with her relative, Mrs. H, at the age of 10. When Jennifer’s mother could no longer care for her, Mr. and Mrs. H stepped in with open hearts and welcomed her into their family. Their love and commitment led to Jennifer’s adoption at age 15. Today, she’s a confident, bright 16-year-old who enjoys playing volleyball with her friends—and Mr. and Mrs. H couldn’t be prouder.

 
 

therapy dogs teach patience.

Tiffany’s casework team believed she could benefit from our Therapy Dog Program, Project C.A.R.E., to support her in managing her emotions more effectively. After participating in several sessions, Tiffany shared with staff that spending time with the dogs was helping her become more patient and understanding. “I get to have fun,” she said, “and if I’m mad or sad, the dogs help calm me down.”

Shawn was able to pay for a semester of college using the money he earned while enrolled in MercyFirst’s Career Academy. Reflecting on his experience, he shared, “I will forever be grateful for Career Academy—not only did it provide job opportunities, but it also taught us important life skills like understanding credit, debit, taxes, and how to open a bank account.”
